Paula safe, tearful Brooke cut from Idol
After Tuesday night’s fiasco on American Idol where judge Paula Abdul starts judging a second song she hasn’t heard on live television, Internet gossip went wild.
Is American Idol scripted?
During Wednesday’s result show, host Ryan Seacrest defended Paula, saying that the Internet rumors were not true — she is part of the American Idol family and they love her.
Maybe Ryan was trying to take the heat off of the “scripted” argument and trying to focus the debate on Paula and her job security.
As far as the show being scripted, it would seem possible that maybe they do a rehearsal before going live and have already heard the performances. Maybe they don’t judge the rehearsal, but watch them.
In Paula’s defense, they did switch up the format by making the judges take notes and hold their thoughts until all the contestants had performed. But then, Ryan asked the judges to give their thoughts after hearing only the first performances. If she had seen it in a rehearsal, I can see how she could get confused. Plus, Ryan “stressed” Round 1. I wonder if that means something? Watch the video to see what I mean. Plus, this is Paula we are talking about. I love her, but sometimes she can’t put a complete sentence together. Sadly, she chose Tuesday night to be able to speak.
As for Brooke White, it wasn’t a good night. She was cut leaving contestants David Cook, Jason Castro, David Archuleta and Syesha Mercado (also in the bottom two).
Brooke had sung Neil Diamond’s “I’m a Believer” and “I Am … I Said,” getting bad reviews from judge Simon Cowell on the first one and getting thumbs up on the second song.
I’ve never been happy with watching the cut American Idol contestant have to sing a song directly after hearing that their time on the show was over. How would you like to have your dream taken away and then be told to perform?
Poor Brooke was steadily crying as her “goodbye” video played in the background. When it came time for her to sing, she tearfully told the audience “thank you” and began singing. You could tell that she was hanging by a thread emotionally, so it was nice to see the remaining four contestants come stand behind her in support. Personally, I think Neil Diamond should have got on stage and helped her out.
Back to American Idol and Paula. Do you think the show is scripted?
